Hara Shin delves into near-futuristic insights from a non-human perspective regarding urgent contemporary issues such as the climate crisis, mass extinction, habitat loss, and migration. She discerns remnants of sociocultural violence and hierarchies in both past and current contexts, which influence her work. Shin draws from postcolonial and Anthropocene viewpoints to dismantle the divisions between nature and culture, human and non-human, as well as mainstream and non-mainstream narratives. Through her artistic practice, manifested in video/film and multimedia installation, she explores the intricate relationships between the natural and the artificial, documentary and fiction, and humanity and the non-human.
